On Thursday, we took the Paris Metro to the Louvre Museum. We didn't enter through the glass pyramid (which I like), but through the underground shopping plaza from the Metro. Chuck had purchased a set of Metro tickets and a museum pass while we were in London. The museum pass allowed use to by-pass the ticket lines at the museums - a great deal. The Metro tickets weren't such a good deal -- about 50% of the time they didn't work! If there was someone in the ticket booth, we could get the tickets exchanged, but that didn't happen often.
The Louvre is overwhelming in both the size of the palace and the size of the collections. We started by seeing the Mona Lisa and Winged Victory. The Mona Lisa is behind glass and behind ropes - you can't really get too close. The Winged Victory is on the landing of some stairs & was very impressive. We also spent some time looking at the Egyptian collections and some statuary.
Our hotel is right down the street from Guy Savoy's restaurant where you can start with a $75 appetizer and most meals run well over $500 without wine! Wow. I'm not certain ANY food is worth that price. You can take the girl out of New Wilmington, but you can't take ....
