A sneezing, hacking week with a cold

Nothing to report this week of any fun -- came back from Paris with a renewed head cold & have been sneezing and coughing all week. Taught on Wed. sounding like a cross between a frog (my voice) and a seal (barking coughs). Spent the last 2 days moving from the bed to the couch to the shower (steam) to the bed ...

In the meantime, here's some photos of our cooking class in Paris with Paule -- much more interesting than my health! http://www.promenadesgourmandes.com/moxie/kitchen/paule.shtml

We met Paule at Stroher's pastry shop on the Rue Montorgueuil, which is a neighborhood market with fish mongers, butchers, vegetable shops and shops to buy pastries! Stroher's is the oldest pastry shop in Paris. The pastries were GORGEOUS, but we headed for Louie's to have 2 pain au chocolat and an apple turnover and ...

Our lessons started with visits to the shops, geography lessons and lessons in seasonal produce. Don't buy goat cheese after October because goats are milked in August & the cheese is sub-par after 2 months... don't buy produce out of season or not grown in France... buy line caught fish, net caught if you must & never buy farm raised fish... it was fascinating!

Paule's new apartment & kitchen was large, sunny and complete the the latest equipment. Here's a photo at the
end of Chuck, me, Paule & Tynisha (the other student). We made pumpkin soup, a morrocan fish dish, and a chocolate tarte and had a cheese lesson. We were with Paule from 9 am to 3 pm and left shortly after lunch finished. Yum.

  1. What a wonderful way to spend the day! A cooking class in France! I'm so envious! Did you get to keep the recipes? How was the fish prepared? What fun! I love the pictures - especially of Chuck cleaning out the pumpkin... I can't wait to see the rest of the photos. And can you do a mini-cooking lesson when you get home? :-)
